2nd story - A Gardener

2nd story - A gardener who loves to kill snails on purpose as snails keep eating his plants.

6 illustrations in total.
References images:  google images - gardeners

I planned to fit all these illustrations on one page.

I created each illustrations on  different documents so I won't get confuse. Then I placed each one of them on a A5 Landscape document. I had had to use grids to make sure all these illustrations are equal in term of the weight and height. I also left 1cm around the edges for bleed.

I used the same digital technique from the 1st story

I asked a friend to check my grammar and spelling as English isn't my first language. I have used KG Primary Pen font for typography - the same font and colour as 'title pages' to make them work as a set.
I think the illustrations and typography look too small so I decided to change the amount of illustration(s) per page. I think this page deserve some breathing spaces too.

After I rethought about it, I decided to put 2 illustrations per page as I was afraid of losing  its texture if the size were too small.
I decided to do a mock up first. Figure 1 is the size for the illustrations (roughly).

Figure 1 and figure 2
I started to place the illustrations on an A5 landscape document on Photoshop. Tadaaaa. I made the illustrations and the typography slightly bigger. The page and illustrations look better - less crowded and more negative space.it looked wrong (figure 2). The sign board (?) is too close with Alan, the gardener. So I decided to do some layout sketch for this story.

Figure 3 and Figure 4.
Figure 3 is my layout ideas and I decided to illustrate the middle ones and came out with figure 4.
I had a problem with text in the bubble speech. - Small bubble speeches but lot's of text. I had an experiment of making my own typeface but I failed !

I mean, the typography looks good in a small quote like 'Hi' but not in a large quote like 'I plant tomatoes and cucumber' like below.

After I had a long thought and thought and thought. I decided to download a font called 'Tondu' from Defont.com . I chose Tondu font because it looked similar to my font that I made myself using the pen tool.

So what I did was I opened a texture (that I thought suitable for my quotation's font) on Photoshop> write quotes on a new layer> Magic Want Tool (select all typography)> click at the texture background>Cmd+C> Go to the gardener document>Cmd+V>resized and rearranged.

I experimented with the bubble speeches' shape and changed the Hue & Saturation. I decided to get the grass green colour as a gardener always deal with green.

Typography that I made on Photoshop. It really pretty and I am loving it but it's such a shame that I could not use this on one of my final piece.

I was thinking of adding a barrier or a background as I thought it look quite empty andat the end I decided to leave it as it was.

I added a snail for each illustrations too.
I have to make sure that all illustrations, bubble speeches and typography are all align/same size.
