Book binding
(Figure 1 )Japanese book binding. (figure 2)Concertina book
Figure 3 and figure 4- saddle stitches
Figure 4 - saddle stich
I experimented with book bindings. I prefer saddle stitch because it makes the book to open easily.
I am not very keen with Japanese book binding as I don't think it suitable with my book and I am planning of making my book pretty small maybe either A5 or A6 size. I don't like the fact that I have to leave in between 1 and 2 cm for the bind - hard to keep the book flat - when you open the book.

Book Binding research.
At first I thought of doing perfect binding technique but after I got some advices from some tutors at book binding studio, they told me that perfect binding does not suit with my book of style as I only have 7 pages. Perfect binding is perfect for lots of pages book e.g. magazine, text books.
Hardcover book binding
I like this ones but after I look at it properly, this book contained lots of pages. Hard cover = limited canvas (for the cover) = Can't print on top of the canvas ( I could print screen it but nah). So I decided to do paper cover with saddle stitch,
Paper cover and saddle stitch book binding.
These are some example of saddle stitch that they've got at Vernon Street. Charming. It is very easy to make.
Inspirations.
My main inspirations for this brief are Eric Carle and Morita MiW. These are some artworks by them.
Eric Carle:-
Morita MiW:-
Both of these illustrators have used traditional collage. I like how the artists created their own textures>cutting into shapes>gluing.
I watched how Eric Carle create his texture here. I love it !

I have learn that if I want to do questionnaire, I have to make sure that my questions are as specific as possible so I can get the right answers.
I did two batches of questionnaire.
1st batch I asked 20 people and the 2nd batch I asked 20 people as well.
For the 2nd batch I edited some questions to be more specific e.g. for question 3, I added 'year, night or day, age.'
But overall, I think questionnaire is the best primary research and was extremely helpful for my idea generation.

Screen Printing
We divided into 2 groups by Matt. We were told to do a hotdog book by using an a piece of A3 paper and we decided to portrait our self as a zombie
My sketches
We did a print screen session. It was fun. I love print screen but I don't think this technique is suitable for my subject. I might use this technique in the future; I need to remember that print screen will take me forever so I need to organise my time properly.

I was planning of illustrating experiences of people when they stepped a snail. So I went on the internet and here what I found:-
Then I have highlighted some information that I thought that might be helpful to illustrate my idea
I also thought about conditions of snails after it have been stepped and the surface/texture of snails after have been stepped.
But this little exercise does not help me a lot. So I decided to do a questionnaire.
